YaanƐ-oo! Amaaraba! Welcome!

My name is Maria and I am a Chicago native (hence "The Go") transplanted to Ghana as a Special Education Volunteer with the United States Peace Corps. It has been a wild ride, first serving a year in the Upper West Region as a Teacher of the Deaf before being moved to the Northern Region, where I am working at an NGO (non-governmental organization) created by and for deaf people to fight for equal access.

I created this blog for two reasons: First, so that I can provide my friends and family information on the history and culture of my two communities and second, to provide them a glimpse into what it is like serving and my thoughts as I do so.
